This past Sunday I met Tori and her family at Thornton’s Tree Land Farm in Vancouver, Wa. The air still held a hint of fall, but the trees whispered that winter was on its way.
Their little one toddled between the rows of firs- curious about every pine cone and twig while Mom and Dad knelt nearby, laughing in that way only parents of a one-year-old do: a mix of joy and likely a touch of disbelief at how fast time moves…and a hint of wonder of what’s to come. The session started out calm, we were just gathering our bearings.
And then in true Oregon fashion the weather changed drastically! About twenty minutes in, the wind picked up and hail began to fall. Within seconds, we were all running for the cars, trying to dodge the ice bouncing off our coats. The owner of the farm came by to check on us (so kind!), making sure everyone was safe and offering to help us wait it out.
About 20 minutes later, the clouds broke, and the most beautiful light filtered through the trees. We stepped back out into a soft, misty glow — hair damp, cheeks flushed, and hearts full. We could have called it a day but we wanted to see what we could create despite the unexpected change in weather. There was something perfectly imperfect about it. Life rarely goes according to plan, but it’s those little interruptions- the laughter in the rain, the shared looks and quiet moments that end up being the most memorable.
As a mom myself, I’m constantly reminded how quickly each season passes. One day your baby is toddling through a Christmas tree farm, and before you know it, they will be running ahead to pick the tree themselves. These photographs freeze just a small slice of that- a glimpse of what life and love looks like right now.
I’ll be back at Thornton’s Tree Land Farm on 11/15 for my Christmas Tree Mini Sessions! These sessions are the perfect way to slow down and soak in the warmth of the season. I’d love to capture your family among the evergreens — cozy, real, and full of heart.
You can find all the details and booking information [here]. I can’t wait to see you at the farm!
